Biography

Famous American singer was born in 1941 in New Jersey, but his childhood past in Forest Hills, NY. At Queens NY, he met Art Garfunkel, who was already the most popular singer of the neighborhood. At high School, they have created a duo called Tom and Jerry. They had to take pseudonyms in order to avoid sounding too Jewish.

In 1957 they have issued their first single Hey School Girl which was a hit. They did it when Simon was 15 years old only. They decided to start a separate careers then and met each other years later to reestablish fruitful cooperation.

Simon & Granfunkel issued their first album Wednesday Morning 3. A. M. soon after they restarted cooperation. However, this work did not bring them success. Musician decides to go to Europe, where he was living in France, Spain and England as a true vagabond, sleeping under the bridge. He met his first love and muse Kathy there.

In 1965, singer issued his first solo work The Paul Simon Songbook. This album was not commercially successful, but it included such songs as I Am a Rock and Kathy’s Song. Both those singles were going to become his fans favorite ones later.

In the United States, Tom Wilson (famous producer, who worked with Bob Dylan), reworked The Sound of Silence single, and this last one a hit number 1. Paul returned to the United States and produced another album in 1966 together with Granfunkel. This new work was called Sounds of Silence.

Their last cooperative work appeared in 1970 and was called Bridge Over Troubled Water. Then, they broke up after this album won six Grammys and started to work separately.

Simon’s solo career was successful. In 1972 he issued a solo album including Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, the true hit of the 70th.

In 1985 he issued Graceland album in South Africa which was a mix of rock and local vocal styles. With his new album, He gain success and helped African music to be heard by the rest of the World. Then he turns his attention to Latin music and issues The Rhythm of the Saints in 1990.

In the beginning of the new century, Paul Simon issues several commercially successful works such as You’re The One (2000), Surprise (2006), So Beautiful or So What (2011).
