Biography
The band did their first steps in 1980 and released their debut album Speak & Spell in 1981. In the next two years they have issued another two great albums A Broken Frame and Construction Time Again. In 1984 their next studio work Some Great Reward appeared and helped the band to make a true breakthrough as they became popular in both Europe and North America.
Early 90s was the time of alternative music and they became one of the most successful bands in the World. Their Violator, released in 1990 was triple platinum. This album included such hits as Personal Jesus (remade later by Marilyn Manson), Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth and so on.
Despite the fact, that the band was on peak of its fame that time, the trio took a pause for four years and reunited in 1997 only to produce their next studio work Ultra. In 2001 they have issued Exciter including such hits as Dream On and I Feel Loved. After this album, the band took a pause again as Gahan decided to do his own career. This period was short and the band reunited again to produce their next Playing the Angel album in 2005.
