This British indie rock band was formed by Gwil Sainsbury (bass, guitar), Joe Newman (vocals, guitar), Thom Green (drums) and Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboard, vocals). This group appeared in 2008. A year later they have released their first two singles Matilda and Fitzpleasure. The band’s first album An Awesome Wave appeared the same year. This studio work was highly appreciated by critics and public and earned Mercury prize along with three Brit Awards. Alt-J started to tour across the United States soon.
In 2013, Gwil Sainsbury left the band and the quartet turned into a trio. In 2014 their next studio album This is All Yours appeared. It debuted number one in the UK and was warmly met in Europe and the United States. The band won their first Grammy the same year.
